Seth Estrada - Benevolent Dictator
Ric Estrada; Ink-Pot Award winner, veteran of the Silver-Age of American Comics, friend of the late Ernest Hemingway, contemporary of Fidel Castro, tenant of unlikely landlords Andreas Baader und Ulrike Meinhof, Worldtraveler, long-time cancer-survivor, and father to nine (9!) children. You might call him the Cuban Forest Gump. But what does any of this mean, and to whom?
Well, imagine 'American Splendor' creating a bastard child with 'My Architect' and you have Ric Estrada Movie, the documentary film I am producing about my dad, Ric Estrada.
My name is Seth Estrada, and I am telling the story of a man who has inspired thousands through his gift of visual storytelling, and open-door, open-heart policy of sharing his vast life-experience.
Among our interviewees are current President of DC Comics, Paul Levitz, comics writer extraordinaire, Roy Thomas, the award-winning creator of Groo the Wanderer, Sergio Aragonés, award-winning comics writer/historian Mark Evanier, comics legend Joe Kubert, and more! We are asking for your help in any combination of the following ways:
PUBLICITY - SPREAD THE WORD:
1) CONGREGATE! Add yourself to our Facebook group and post a link to your profile.
2) LINK! Post a direct link to our project home on your blog, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or other social networking accounts .
3) GEAR UP! Buy a shirt or poster from us, and wear it with pride!
4) SAY 'HELLO!' Visit us at all the major Comic Book Conventions: we will be making some type of appearance at every Con we can!
5) E-BLAST! Send a mass email to all of your friends and family with a link to this project (be sure to use your 'BCC' filter so as not to upset the delicate balance between mass-letter and SPAM)
CONSIDER CONTRIBUTING ORIGINAL ARTWORK:
1) If you or someone you know owns some of Ric's original drawings, especially from his earlier work at EC Comics/MAD, we would love to use a high-res scan of them.
2) If you have fan art, affectionately referred to as F.ART, we would love to see it.
HELP PROVIDE BOOTH SPACE AT CONVENTIONS:
We are still not completely funded, and are calling in a lot of favors. This is one of them. We could use direct financial support for this, in order to purchase our own booth space, or we could share a corner of your booth. Either one would do just fine.
HELP PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES:
There are two ways to do Transcription: free, or non-free. We are ok with either one, but we need your help either way :) Please volunteer to transcribe if you can handle typing dictation, or pledge the $90/tape necessary for a professional company to do it. Either way, you will be helping tremendously.
